Grier Laughlin - age-group water polo coach dies in auto accident
It is with a heavy heart that the ACWPC
extends sympathy to the family of Grier Laughlin, who was killed in
a head-on collison on Sunday night on E-470. Grier has been a
member of the Colorado aquatics family since he was very young -
setting state records in freestyle, backstroke and relay events
through all age groups - and still holds the 10 & Under boys 50
backstroke for SCY. He earned 11 All-American standards as a member
of the Cherry Creek High School and concluded his career as a
member of the Dartmouth College Swim Team in
1996.
In 2003, Grier continued his love of the water by founding the Colorado Water Polo team, which he coordinated and coached out of pure love of the sport in addition to his full-time job as CEO of Quintus Holdings. He will be greatly missed across the aquatic community. Grier is survived by his wife, Karen and his three children - as well as many friends and extended family.
Memorial services are scheduled for this Friday (2/25) at 2pm at Cherry Creek Presbyterian Church
10150 E. Belleview Avenue, 1.9 miles east of I-25.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to:
The Grier Laughlin Memorial Fund
c/o Ellis Family Services
PO Box 270334
Littleton, CO 80127
Proceeds from this fund will go to help with the three Laughlin children’s educational and other needs. Funds will also hopefully support the possible establishment of the Grier Laughlin Memorial Swimming and Water Polo Complex. It was a dream of Grier’s to bring a top swimming and water polo facility to the area, one capable of hosting swim meets and water polo tournaments. This would be a tremendous undertaking, but one his family and friends think would be a perfect way of honoring his memory and his dream, while providing lasting support for his two favorite sports here in Colorado.
